What is an End-of-Life Doula?

End-of-life doulas provide companionship, solace, and guidance to those facing a terminal illness or death. Our non-medical holistic support encompasses emotional, spiritual, and practical care. We offer resources to help the dying person, along with their family and loved ones, make informed decisions in a supportive environment.

Doulas can play an important supportive role when people are impacted by a life changing illness, receive a terminal diagnosis, when death is imminent, or after a loved one's passing. A patient ear, thoughtful guidance, and the light grief support that end-of-life doulas offer will help comfort those experiencing stress and painful emotions.

Doulas help normalize death care by creating welcoming spaces to hold conversations that increase understanding as well as spiritual and emotional well-being. When people plan ahead in preparation for their passing, they have decision-making autonomy and can clearly state their end-of-life wishes to family members and other loved ones.

While there are several other names for end-of-life doulas such as death doula, death midwife, death coach, and end-of-life coach – we all seek to provide compassionate death care. For additional information about this topic, please visit this valuable online resource to learn more.

At SeaStar, two of our end-of-life doulas also hold a Master's of Social Work degree. If you're interested in this service for yourself or a loved one, please contact us for more information about how we can help.
