SeaStar’s founder and owner Niki Tucker has over twenty years of experience working with seniors and vulnerable adults. She is a fully licensed social worker and certified care manager. During her career she has worked as a private care manager, care coordinator for low-income senior housing, professional legal guardian, and executive director of an assisted living facility. Niki also previously helped set up and run another successful home care and care management company for over a decade.

Client safety and well-being are our primary focus.  Everything SeaStar does is with that commitment in mind – from hiring, training, supervising staff to daily policies and procedures – to ensure that clients' needs are always met to the highest standards.

Prior to assigning a companion to a client, we do a full assessment of the client's physical, emotional, and cognitive needs. This information helps ensure that the companion we send is able to provide the necessary care to meet these needs. Companions are also selected based on their skills, experience, and personality. If for some reason the client doesn't think the pairing is a good fit, they have the right to request a replacement.

SeaStar does require a minimum shift of two hours for outings, and four hours for in-home visits. No other commitments are required. While some agencies expect clients to sign on to a package deal, we do not.

Anyone can call themselves a "care manager," because there is no formal license or educational requirement to perform this type of work. In fact, many professional care managers got their start while taking care of their own aging parents, and then later offered that service to other families.

At SeaStar, we believe that a comprehensive assessment and robust care plan are crucial to ensuring that clients' needs are met. To achieve this, we hire people who have earned a Master's in Social Work because they have been educated specifically in how to conduct thorough assessments and create individualized care plans.

MSWs have also been trained to understand the importance of social justice, advocacy, integrity, dignity, competency, service, and self-worth of the individual. You can rest assured that SeaStar staff provides the highest level of professional service.
