For Melinda, joining SeaStar Senior Services was a matter of perfect timing. After sending both her children off to college and experiencing the passing of her mother, she found herself reflecting on her role as a health advocate and caregiver for her parents. Following a memorable Mediterranean trip with her husband, Melinda returned home ready for a new chapter. Discovering SeaStar’s mission and values resonated deeply with her, and she felt inspired to join the team, bringing her compassionate nature and professional expertise to the role.
Melinda’s career has been dedicated to helping others, beginning as a Medical Social Worker in hospitals such as Providence St. Vincent in Portland, Virginia Mason in Seattle, and New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan, where she was working on the morning of 9/11. In her roles, she provided short-term crisis counseling, coordinated patient discharge plans, and worked alongside interdisciplinary teams to ensure the well-being of patients and their families. Her experience spans neurology, gerontology, emergency care, and crisis intervention, all rooted in advocacy and compassionate care.
Born and raised in St. Helens, Oregon, Melinda’s connection to the region runs deep. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University and her master’s degree from the University of Chicago. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time on the water with her boater's license in hand.
